ENERGY PRODUCTION COSTS TO BEREDUCED IN THE FUTURE

The Suriname Power Company (EBS) has come up with a plan that when completed will considerably reduce the production costs of energy. Henri Wormer, director of EBS, made this announcement at Nickerie where he was present at the installation of two new generators for that district. The two new machines that were delivered by Wartsila has a capacity of 7 megawatts and have cost about US$ 4.200.000. With the new generators a great part of Nickerie's energy problems will be solved. According to Wormer most of EBS's machines are now using crude oil which is delivered by Staatsolie (Sur. Petrol. Co), and the company has now opted for the use of water from the Suriname river , which is free, for cooling. Machinery in the districts Nickerie, Moengo and Coronie will also switch to crude oil in the near future. Even though the production costs will be reduced the tariffs corrections will still have to be enforced. Wormer asked that the government have the new tariffs that were presented by the EBS okayed. He stated further that the EBS will desolve their liberal-debiting policy. Everyone will have to pay their bills from now on. The EBS also plans to build a center at Nickerie for the distribution and filling of gas cylinders. This will cost them anotherUS$ 85.000. This will guarantee a better gas distribution for Nickerie and the surrounding districts also at the Guyanese border.
