Moiwanna's Human Rights activities for 1998 will consist of the following activities:

  • Information & Promotion
  • Registration & documentation of human rights violations
  • Investigation & description of human rights violations
  • Human rights actions
  • Publication on the Suriname Human Rights situation

    Publications

    Moiwana'86 publishes a newsletter containing information about national human rights arena. Moiwana'86 also publishes an annual report on the human rights situation in Suriname, as well as special reports and press release on occurrences
     
     

    Gran Krutu

    In 1995 and 1996 two Gran Krutu's were held. In both the Gran Krutu's Moiwana'86 had an important contribution in the organization. The first Gran Krutu intended to inform the Indigenous People and Maroons about their rights and duties, for instance stated in ILO-Convention 169. The second Gran Krutu concerns the evaluation of the implementation of the decisions, taken at the first Gran Krutu.

    The third Gran Krutu shall have the following goals:

    1. to consolidate and strengthen the cooperation between Indigenous People and Maroons
    2. enforcing recognition with respect to land rights of Indigenous and Maroons.
    Gran Krutu is the meeting of the leadership of the Indigenous and Maroon Peoples in Suriname. The meeting of 1995 became the first in the history of Suriname.
